The Hermiston School District (HSD) has voted to rejoin the InterMountain Education Service District (IMESD), a decade after withdrawing from the regional cooperative. The return becomes effective July 1, 2027.
"We are excited to serve Hermiston. We believe their return to IMESD is a win/win for the district and region," said Mark Mulvihill, superintendent of IMESD.
When HSD opted out in 2015, the district was growing, staffing needs were different, and operational demands were simpler. Today, the district faces declining enrollment, rising costs, increased student needs, expanded mandates, and growing demand for specialized services — challenges the IMESD is well-positioned to help address.
